WRITES OF LIFE RECEIVES BRONZE MEDAL AT IPPYS

NEW YORK (May 25) — Writes of Life: Using Personal Experiences In Everything You Write (Koboca Publishing: 2006) has received the Bronze Medal in the 2007 Independent Book Publishers Awards.

Also nominated for a Franklin Award, Writes of Life passed through two rounds of judging before earning an IPPY Bronze Medal. The award, the most prestigious given for independent press titles, will be presented June 1 at the Booksellers Expo of America convention in New York. The winning entry was The Dog Walked Down the Street: An Outspoken Guide for Writers Who Publish, by Sal Glynn.

Written by Robert Yehling, Writes of Life offers specific advice on how to turn personal experiences into dynamic stories, essays, books, poems, songs, blogs and articles. Based on a writing workshop series Yehling has taught nationally since 2000, Writes of Life features more than 100 specific exercises that have been utilized by hundreds of amateur and professional writers. The book’s concise presentation makes it equally appealing as a resource to professional writers, to aspiring writers, and to university and high school writing curricula.

Writes of Life will be followed in Summer 2007 by The Write Time, a 365-day calendar book of exercises authored by Yehling and Dr. Terra Pressler. Yehling’s novel, The Voice, will also hit bookshelves soon. It has received a “recommended reading” nod from Publisher’s Weekly. A second edition of Writes of Life is planned for 2008.

Besides Writes of Life, Yehling is the author of a pair of poetry-essay collections, Shades of Green and Coyotes in Broad Daylight; a poetry CD, Nature’s Writes; and co-editor, with Stephen B. Gladish, of the just-released Freedom of Vision: Voices From Inside Prison Walls.
