RITE WHERE YOU WALK

Would wine
pressed from grapes tended
0n a hillside near a sacred grove
be a wise drink?

Any predisposition
to roam over that slope
and partake of its ripened fruit,

would spill into late afternoon,
unraveling all that's behind,
opening what is locked within
as you walk on in dregs of grass.

Nearing that site of mystery
through slightly bent oaks,
entwined in trellises of shadow
you blossom into a madrigal

an intoxication

a text of reverence.
