UNFORGETTABLE STORY WRITING: THE ART, THE CRAFT
WORKSHOP SERIES TO BE HELD IN MARION OCT. 16 & 30
MARION, KY — The third season of the Crittenden County Workshop Series will kick off October 9 and October 16 with a workshop series, “Unforgettable Story Writing: The Art, The Craft,” facilitated by series co-creator and award-winning author Bob Yehling.
Each workshop is free of charge and open to writers of all ages and genres. The workshops will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. at Crittenden County Library.
“Unforgettable Story Writing: The Art, The Craft” will focus on the creation, development and execution of fiction and non-fiction stories of all sizes. Participants will work with their own skills, styles and genre preferences while experimenting with some of the tools that have been behind many of literature’s finest stories.
“There are a hundred ways to approach a single idea, plot or character,” Yehling said. “We often get tripped up before we start writing, because we can’t focus our words in a way that matches the scope of our original idea.
“This workshop is specifically designed to put the fun back into story writing, and to show ways of approaching challenges by using one’s own style and voice — always the best and most believable approach to the reader.”
Yehling invites participants to bring either works-in-progress, or story ideas they have been cultivating. Areas such as plot and character development, movement/pace, dialogue, development of voice and attention to detail will be covered.
“While this is a workshop with some attention paid to technique — the craft — we will strongly emphasize the great joy of creating and writing stories that will pleasure ourselves and our readers, whomever they are — the art,” Yehling said.
A number of items will be available at the workshop, including Yehling’s newest book, The River-Fed Stone, his four other works, journals and special writer’s “box-is.”
