‘POETRY THROUGH THE AGES’ AUTHOR FEATURED
AT THIRD TUESDAY READING SERIES OCT. 21

     OWENSBORO — Poet and author Robert Yehling, whose work on the educational website “Poetry Through The Ages” was recently featured worldwide on the Voice of America, will be a featured reader along with Barbara Stahura at the Third Tuesday Reading Series on Tuesday, Oct. 21 in Owensboro.

     The reading will begin at 7 p.m. The authors will make available and sign their works following the reading.

      Yehling, who lives in Crittenden County, will read from “Poetry Through The Ages” and his fourth and newest collection of poetry and essays, The River-Fed Stone. He will be joined by fellow former Evansville resident Stahura, now of Tucson, Ariz., who will be reading from her new book of essays, What I Thought I Knew.

Yehling and Stahura are reading together at select locations throughout the country.

     “Poetry Through The Ages” is a 256-page website that explores the 4,500-year history of Western poetry, from the ancient Sumerian poets to today’s top work. The site features a comprehensive history of poetic forms, communities and influences. It includes numerous examples, a do-it-yourself tutorial section on 20 select forms — some dating back to Ancient Greece — and innovative lesson plans for teachers at the middle school through graduate school levels.

     Produced by the Institute for Dynamic Educational Advancement (IDEA), “Poetry Through The Ages” has met with strong response from the literary and academic communities throughout the country. In addition to its recent spot on “Voice of America,” it will soon be spotlighted in Edutopia, the magazine of the George Lucas Educational Foundation.

      The River-Fed Stone was published shortly after “Poetry Through The Ages” went live. The River-Fed Stone focuses on nature, relationship, community, children, healing and future goals for society in its poems and essays. Included is an interview with Apollo 14 astronaut and Institute of Noetic Sciences founder Dr. Edgar Mitchell.

      In addition to his poetry and essay works, Yehling is the author of Writes of Life, which won the 2007 Independent Publishers Book Award. His novel, The Voice, will be published in Summer 2009. He is the co-editor of two anthologies, Freedom of Vision: Writing from Within Prison Walls (Aisling Press) and the upcoming Ritual and Healing. He has facilitated many writing workshops for adults and teens in the Tri-State area through his company, Word Journeys, Inc.
