THE WORD JOURNEYS WORKSHOP SERIES
RETURNS TO TUCSON!

Your Journal, Your Goldmine • Healing: In Your Own Words • The Draft Is Written: Now What?

MARCH 3-11, 2010 • 8383 E. Tanque Verde Rd., Tucson
Presenter: Bob Yehling, The Write Time: 366 Exercises to Fulfill Your Writing Life

Wednesday, March 3 • 7-10 p.m. • Your Journal, Your Goldmine
Our journal is not our chemistry lab and gold mine: the written record of our creative minds. We’ll practice various forms of journaling and offer a variety of tips and suggestions on how to turn your journal into a creative goldmine, your constant writing companion, and an on-growing seed bed of ideas.

Sunday, March 7 • 1-5 p.m. • Healing … In Your Own Words:
Writing is transformative and healing because it connects our mind, body and soul and requires energy, presence and focus. Practice healing through writing with vignettes, poetry, lyrics, essays and stories. Learn specific ways to present vibrant healing and transformation on the page, and how to “take someone by the hand,” rather than “prescribe.”

The Draft Is Written – Now What?
Part One: Tuesday, March 9 • 7-10 p.m.
The day you’ve finished writing your manuscript, the real work begins. This workshop focuses on steps and techniques of editing – the rewriting, revising and polishing of a manuscript. We practice editing as a book editor would view it. This is a vital workshop for any writer who plans to write a book — or has a book-length manuscript ready to edit.

Part Two: Thursday, March 11 • 7-10 p.m.
Now we visit the other side of writing. We practice writing the all-important query letter to an editor and agent, and discuss book proposals, synopses, literary agents and editors, and how to present a package that sells. We discuss the writer’s promotional platform, and review various publishing options, both in print and online.

LOCATION/WHAT TO BRING
All of the workshops will take place at 8333 Tanque Verde Rd., on the east side of Tucson. Times are indicated on the listings. Bring your journal or laptop, writing instrument and all of your ideas. We may utilize the beautiful grounds for an outdoor writing exercise, so be sure to bring a jacket or sweater.
