APPOGGIATURA
“Someone, I tell you,
will remember us.”
– Sappho (the tenth muse)
Your first touch takes me away
from grinding busy-ness,
settles another day after
I fielded the dreams
of others.
You take me into the depths of cells
whose secrets, utterances
and sculpted memories
have awaited the day
when love new as first light,
ancient as star seed
would walk into my life
and touch me with your fingertips.
Your fingers glide across my arm,
shoulders and back with a grace
the backlit moon bore on a night flight
through yielding summer skies,
dancing,
caressing the inner voice
of a heart –
my heart
– my heart
that hasn’t welcomed melodies
to its deepest wounded places
for so very long.
You play my cells & bones & dreams
with tender pure intent, magic
that transforms each note into song,
each moment into a story,
each kiss into a voyage
as rife with intrigue
as the pages of a book
you turn from the top – position of honor –
to present a woman from Sumeria
not unlike yourself
who knew her majesty & beauty,
wrote her gifts
and presented them to Inanna.
Your fingertips slide off my skin.
A current of soft breeze
warms the belly of my spirit
where wonder greets me,
blossoms through every cell
of my body
and throws open my heart
in its favorite way –
by surprise, wrapped in grace.
She wears your face.
