THE RIVER-FED STONE
The river-fed stone settles, its journey complete,
current and streams calmed from summer’s rage,
Colors of light reflect off my feet.
Exposed by storms, released from the seat
of a mountain eroding, relinquishing a page,
the river-fed stone settles, its journey complete.
Streaks cross smooth surface, the beat
of silt and water grinding edges, tempering with age,
colors of light reflect off my feet.
Tumbling through rapids, gathering force to greet
tranquil pools down stream, scented with sage,
the river-fed stone settles, its journey complete.
Amid sunrise, circling salmon crosses the seat
of a waterfall, shadow over stone its gauge,
colors of light reflect off my feet.
Sleek scales shimmer, containing heat
of orange body spawning, a lifetime’s wage,
The river-fed stone settles, its journey complete,
colors of light reflect off my feet.
