SHADES
OF GREEN: Sample Poems
Lutz, Florida
A hummingbird flew into the mountain house
In dire need of nourishment & nectar
For the glorious golden Home stretch,
He brought along his guitar, his banjo, his stories,
a soul built to love.
He paid homage to the sun & the mountain,
Quietly understanding that this journey
Was about reclaiming vision,
Reclaiming light,
Reclaiming the temple of the body
So that his wisdom could fly
Into the minds of those he touched
On Earth.
The hummingbird's wings were restored,
He flew back to his tropical home
And sprinkled his love through the strings
Of his guitar, magic fingers
Buzzing to the sweet song of spirit
That flows from his eyes & heart
And wraps itself around me
Like smoke at a live oak firepit jam.

Harmony
Rising
She scurries through the crowded gates, eyes sharp, haunted. Fresh bruises
shine from her cheeks.
Her darting green eyes snare rainbow skirts, t-shirts and halter tops,
long hair, laughter, smiles, children playing, couples kissing. She inhales
breezy, pot-infused sunlight.
The minstrel takes center stage and sings of loving touches, green hills,
traveling by heart, honoring the divine. He notices her and, with his
voice, kisses the light emerging from her eyes. She peels off her blouse
and dances until the minstrel leaves the stage.
She leans into a friend’s ear. “I’m never going back.”

Bare teeth of heaven
Glisten atop sun-scaped clouds;
Bird passes in shadow.
White buffalo rises,
A snow cone mother lit
By her rising Moon
Swift mountain river
Carries currents of circle
Back to the ocean.
