TUCSON 2010: WORKSHOPS AMONG THE WILDFLOWERS
Spring is finally on the horizon. In the desert southwest, that means a great wildflower season – and a series of workshops to match.

The Word Journeys Workshop Series resumes in Tucson March 3 with "Your Journal, Your Goldmine," a workshop that proved to be a big hit at the recent Southern California Writers Conference. We'll follow that up on March 5 with "Healing ... In Your Own Words," an evening of deep heart and spiritual writing that provides us the means to turn our personal healing journeys into experiences in journaling, poetry, essay, memoir and fiction writing.

The series continues with "The Draft Is Written, Now What?" a popular two-part series where we switch hats to focus on the editing, platform building, proposal writing, querying, print and online promotion and marketing that follows the completion of our writing process.

Then we're off to make an appearance and sell books at the Tucson Festival of Books, one of the nation's finest new book festivals. More than 50,000 people are expected to pack the University of Arizona campus March 13-14 to buy books and hear some of the nation's finest authors.

Finally, on March 27, one of my favorite events in which to participate: Meet the Authors, in Marion, KY. We'll gather some of the area's finest authors to share their experiences, discuss their books and mingle with the attendees. This is a benefit for the Crittenden County Public Library.

THE WRITE TIME WRITING CONTEST
Entries are trickling in for the most unique writing contest you will ever enter—one whose subject and content is entirely up to you! In this contest, you have 366 different topics and approaches from which to choose…the Write Time Writing Contest.

Here's how it works: My book, The Write Time, contains 366 different writing exercises – one for each day of the year. Get the book and choose two exercises: one right up your alley, which serves your strong suit; and one that pertains to a genre, or style of writing, in which you ordinarily don't work. Write out the exercise, and stick to the word count that it specifies. Go for complete excellence. Push yourself. Surprise yourself.
Now for the big news: $500 in cash prizes, plus publishing opportunities! Entries are open now, and will be accepted through April 15. For rules & entry information.

NEW! MULTIMEDIA BOOK SERVICES
Today's books are taking many different shapes and forms to match our migration to the Internet, phone apps, Kindles, Sony Readers and iPads. We're migrating, too.

FEATURED WRITING EXERCISE
All stories, novels, movies, paintings and pieces of music begin as little seeds that need soil and sustenance. Plant your seeds. Create a habit of writing down all of your ideas for stories, poems, essays, articles, blog subjects or songs. Write a sentence or paragraph—or more—to ground the seed, giving it initial sustenance. Keep planting seeds in your journal, and review them occasionally. Many will germinate in your creative mind. When they do, write to completion.
(From The Write Time: 366 Exercises to Fulfill Your Writing Life, by Robert Yehling)

FINAL WORDS
“You write a sentence and see where it takes you. You take a trip on the page. You go where sentences lead you. It’s a journey.”
— Tom Robbins, author, Even Cowgirls Get the Blues
