THIRTY THOUGHTS    <return to contents

Seeds
I strewed a package of seeds in the ground,
They were large seeds and very round.
       I sowed deep!

My small dog stood and watched me plant
With a wiggling tail and a breathless pant.
       Then dug deep!

A hungry chick scratched here and there,
Hoped for some morsel to ensnare
       It scratched deep!

A sleek mole in his new subway
Missed the seeds that very day
       While traveling deep!

Yet many seeds so round and gray
Opened and grew to blooms so gay
       In colors deep!
