THIRTY THOUGHTS    <return to contents

Window Pictures
The wild shrub tangle of red and brown
Is a touch of color, boon nature's crown
       When it rains!

Where carrot-tops form an emerald isle
Verdant shadows stream mile on miles
       When it rains!

The pipe vine twines a satiny way
Through woodbine where drops of diamonds play
      When it rains!

Barberries--spikes of scarlet plush;
The red-stemmed shrub has a deeper blush
      When it rains!

Beech trees lend their silvery sheen,
Lobmardies change to velvety green
      When it rains!
